Indeed, as the women’s movement becomes forceful in developing nations, the question of tolerance to gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transvestites undergoes a similar process. At a time when women refuse to be subjected to war crimes, when they begin entering the workforce and realize the need to support their families independently, and when they refuse to remain in abusive marriages or remain silent in countries, where governments ignore their needs, men and women are questioning the meaning of gender in their culture and often seek alternatives to established gender roles. In some countries, this entails organized demonstrations for additional civil rights, while in others, the expression of sexual freedom remains a question of remaining silent or risking public execution. Thanks to the scholarly commitment of its authors, this book examines the range of masculine expression on three continents: Europe, Africa, and the Americas. In this collection, they write about men’s past and present challenges, male friendships, and male immigrants and outcasts. Paralleling the independence movement of France’s former colonies, the goal of this collection is to continue the expression of freedom toward understanding and tolerance of all variances of sexuality.

These women writers rework the old formulae, giving us instead death-defying memories of love, love regenerative of language (as of bodies), love forcing the frontiers of death, or love creatively redefined within the parameters of death. Nor are these new narratives imagined as belonging to women alone but rather as attesting to a richer, more varied, and greatly sensitized human experience.

Nomadismes des romancières contemporaines de langue française

Description: On taxe souvent les romancières contemporaines de langue française d'intimisme, de clôture narrative sur la sphère du privé et du corporel, ou encore de focalisation sur l'affect, le familial et le psychique. Pourtant, que ce soit d'un point de vue textuel, générique, social ou politique, cette réduction de la littérature contemporaine féminine à l'auto-enfermement ne rend pas compte d'un champ créatif beaucoup plus complexe. De fait, les reformulations du genre romanesque et le travail sur la langue fluidifient les frontières symboliques traditionnelles, tandis que les déclassements par le haut ou le bas, les métissages identitaires et les traversées d'espaces géographiques, corporels ou politiques indexent un nomadisme généralisé. Enfin, les tentatives de reconfigurations de pratiques éditoriales et critiques séculairement focalisées sur les productions masculines ou franco-françaises signalent un questionnement des enjeux de pouvoir. Pour mettre au jour l'ensemble de ces déplacements, quatre écrivaines ont proposé des inédits sur leur conception personnelle du nomadisme littéraire : Régine Detambel, Annie Ernaux, Pierrette Fleutiaux et Vénus Khoury-Ghata
